Hello Everyone and Welcome to my blog.
Let me start by telling you a little about me and my garden, then I hit the hopes and dreams part of this site.
I live in Midlothian, VA with my hubby, Matt (thanks for the kind words and hard work, hon!) and our two kids (Zachary -6, and Natalie-2). I've lived in this area my whole life . . . grew up in the West End, went to UR, got a job, got married, had kids . . . all here in Richmond! I love it and don't intend to leave it.
I've always loved gardening, but it wasn't until we moved to our current home that my passion took root. (beware of the puns - I've inherited this crazy tendency from my in-laws) When we moved into our home, the place had a lot of amazing landscaping already. It was THE major factor in purchasing the house. I did have a lot to learn and a lot of work to do. I hope to share some of those lessons and experiences in later posts. I love our home and love to be outside doing every different kind of gardening . . . I love to read about it, dream about it, talk about it . . .
Why do I love gardening? First, I think that it draws me to admire the God who created it. Think of all the science that it takes for one acorn to become a thriving oak tree. A trite and cheesy thought but, amazing all the same. God is intelligent and powerful!
Then, there's all the variety that comes with designing, creating, and maintaining a home garden. I'm never bored! I love that about my hobby and my passion. Every season has its different chores. Every year has its new plant introductions. Every week has its new insect eating my tomatoes - "Honey, what is this thing?" "I don't know, let's go look it up on the internet." It's great fun.
Lastly, gardening is something that my whole family enjoys. My husband loves to help in the garden. Zach loves to pick flowers for me and grow veggies he won't eat! Natalie just loves to play in the dirt and step on my John Creech sedum. You'll hear quite a bit about my family in the future too.
I hope that you will enjoy my gardening adventures with me! I welcome your encouraging comments as well as the critical ones! And I hope to become a resource for all things gardening in the Richmond area and beyond.
